For Project 1 I decided to focus my work around my travel abroad experience in Barcelona, Spain. Through a series of curated images, my aim was to capture the essence of this vibrant city and the impact it had on my personal and artistic growth. The images show the city's mix of old and new, like Gaudi's buildings alongside modern skyscrapers. I also highlight the city's culture, from traditional to contemporary.
Through my lens, I captured the essence of Barcelona as a city that felt both foreign and familiar. I aim to convey the mix of emotions I experienced—excitement, wonder, and a sense of belonging. The images showcase iconic landmarks like Gaudi's masterpieces alongside the city's lively streets and dynamic street art scene. I used Picasso as an influence in one page and mimicked his style of art.
I decided to use a lot of my own picturesI took while in the city. In the club and music zines I made, many of those are incorporating my own photos into those pages. I found to be really enjoyable and fun as it allowed me to look back at my experience and transport myself back into the city and my time spent living there. One of the central themes of my zine is the idea of finding a home away from home. In Barcelona, I discovered a place where I felt both lost in a new world and deeply connected to its people and culture.
I used a suitcase as my front and back of the zine and tried to convey on the back how many additional places I traveled to. I used stickers to showcase the countries that I was able to go to and incorporated that also.
